Dr Ovnair Sepai leads a team of toxicologists, providing authoritative advice to Government, UK Health and Security Agency and other health professionals on the human health risks of chemicals drinking water, waste, contaminated land and from waste management, independent toxicological advice on chemicals in cosmetics, consumer products and input to chemical regulation. Ovnair’s research interests are in the assessment of human exposure to chemicals in the environment and application of human biomonitoring in risk assessment.

Ovnair is the scientific secretary to the UK Expert Committee on Mutagenicity of Chemicals in food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COM) and UK Health Security Agency assessor on its sister committees on carcinogenicity (COC), and also manages and develops the HBM programmes of work for UK Health Security Agency. She has led the UK component of– COPHES, DemoCOPHES (www.eu-hbm.info). I lead the UK component of the European Human Biomonitoring Initiative also called HBM4EU (https://www.hbm4eu.eu/ ), and its successor Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC), which is in preparation.
